Artisan Day Celebration

The Hon’ble Minister for Rural Industries has made the announcement on 29.06.2017 on the floor of the Legislative Assembly during the Budget Session 2017-18 that declaring of 5th March every year as Artisans Day.

The Government of Tamil Nadu has vide G.O. (Ms) No. 265 dated 08.12.207 has sanctioned Rs.35.00 lakhs as recurring expenditure for celebration of the Artisan day every year.

In order to create awarness among the General Public on Handicrafts of Tamil Nadu and also to uplift and recognize our aritsans, the Corporation has proposed to declare 5th day of March every year as “Artisans Day”. The day will be celebrated all over Tamil Nadu in grandeur way. Exhibitions, functions etc will be held at Chennai. Advertisements in print, electronic and social media will be made. All awards to artisans will be distributed on the same day.
During the Artisan day the following awards are presented to the artisans by Hon’ble Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Minister in presence of The Principal Secretary, HHT&K, Managing Director, TNHDC Ltd.

  • Poompuhar District Award to 85 artisans.
  • Utility Based Handicrafts Award to 3 artisans
  • Handicrafts Export Award to 2 artisans
  • Team Production Award to 3 teams.
  • Gen-next Award to 150 young artisans.


All the artisans from the state will participate in the event. They will be provided free meals, tea and snacks during the event.

Last year the artisan day was held at Anna Institute of Management on 16.03.2024.

All important VIPs and Selection Committee members will be invited participated in the event.
